Ashama Al-Najashi Mosque

Al-Najashi Mosque is located in one of the corners of the resort, built in the traditional Najdi architectural style. It offers both younger generations and visitors—local and international—a glimpse into the components of a classic Najdi congregational mosque, where the five daily prayers and Friday prayers are held. The mosque showcases traditional Najdi woodwork, crafted from tamarisk trees, beautifully displayed in its doors and windows. Additionally, artistic gypsum decorations adorn the walls and corners of the mosque, reflecting a creative and authentic Najdi aesthetic.
This mosque was named after the King of Abyssinia, Ashama ibn Abjar (Al-Najashi), in honor of the first Muslim monarch— the first to offer refuge to Muslims facing forced migration, and the first for whom the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed the funeral prayer in absentia (Salat al-Gha’ib). Here, we reflect on the miracle bestowed upon the Prophet ﷺ by God, who informed him of Al-Najashi’s passing, despite the king being in a distant corner of the Earth. May God have mercy on him and forgive him.
